Lirr:Long Island Railroad fire knocks out all

Fire in the switch tower knocked out service on all but one line Long Island Rail Road, officials said.

Railway officials are now scrambling to come up with a plan for the evening peak, when about 100,000 daily LIRR riders will try to get home after work.

Only the Port Washington Branch currently operates.

The train stopped at the nearest station shortly before 11 am, according to a LIRR, who said no one was injured in a fire reported.

The damaged tower is located to the east of the center of Jamaica train in which 10 sectors converge before heading to Penn Station.
